    Cool Encyclia belizensis in spike

The count-down is on. The buds are developing nicely. To keep the plant and spikes secure while it blooms, I attached it to a shelf which has been tied to a column out back. This should be quite a show... I think this is the third and best blooming of this plant so far. I counted the buds and figure I will have somewhere between 250-270 flowers.

Well! talk about the cat that got the cream. Dont blame you though, think i would strike a pose too! Are all the spikes 1 per bulb and all new vegetative growth, wondering if old bulbs flower more than once like old dend canes. Will be a great display, i think you should up security level to guard those spikes and remove and ban all alcohol from the house for 10 weeks just to be sure!

LOL Yes I am that fat cat! You gave me a huge smile this morning. Actually; protecting them was my main reason for attaching it to the pole. I also threaded some twine around the spikes so they have a little support. As for the bar...it's an orchid bar, so all's good! The spikes come one to a p-bulb. They do get super long though. One of my spikes is almost as tall as myself. My husband measured and said it was a few inches over 4 ft. And once they are done, the spike needs to be cut and that bulb will not bloom again. I suppose if it ever gets split, the backbulbs could make many new plants...
