Default Laelia Santa Barbara Sunset 'showtime'

Laelia Santa Barbara Sunset 'showtime'...I bought one of these ages ago very cheaply. It grew nicely enough for a while then did a nosedive. I am so enamored with those blooms that I replaced it with an original division with a nice long spike! Considering the shape of the pseudobulbs and the height of the plant in general, I think I was sold a bad clone the first go round. Maybe this one will fare better!Posted via Mobile Device

Haha...me too Bruce! It's a division of the original awarded plant! If it doesn't survive, I may die with it!

I remember the troubles with your original plant. Great look with this one. It looks super.

Thanks y'all! I have my fingers crossed for this one...these are supposed to grow as anceps. It's outdoors so that it can get our cool night fog...potted in rocks. Anyone else grow this hybrid?

I grow it in the greenhouse year-round, where it's a reliable bloomer. Lows about 60 F, now growing in coco hull chips. I think "grow as anceps" means it's temperature tolerant, not low temp requiring.

Thanks Michael! I've read lots about anceps and have a little "project plant" that I plan to leave outdoors over the winter...frost protected, of course. Freezing temps are a rare occurance here. When there is a freeze, there is no cloud cover. Temps rise quickly. It was an inexpensive anceps division. The SBS division, however, is another story. It won't be subjected to any of the temps that anceps is reported to handle in stride! I am worried first of its survival and second it's blooming...Posted via Mobile Device
