Default Paph Maudiae X Paph Clair de Lune

    Dear Friends,

My first ever Paph. It is Paph Maudiae X Clair de Lune... at least that is what it says on the label. Is it normal to get two buds like this (I have no experience with these guys.)

Anyway, it is very pretty in bud, so I just took a snap.

Yes it is normal to get two buds. I agree that the bud form is lovely but wait till they open---they are stunning then. Great pic and am anxious to see pics when it opens.

Thanks Bill, I did not know that. Sure thing: I will post it when it pops!

Lovely photo comp., Igor. I agree they're very pretty in bud. I've had several Paphs. with 2 buds, but it is not the usual. In fact, watch out that that 2nd bud does not compromise the opening and shaping of the primary one. Also, keep an eye on its stem, making sure that the dorsal tips upward so that you can see it fully. Those are 2 great parents. It looks as though it may be quite light. Can't wait for the full bloom(s)!

Thank you Maura. I have to admit I would prefer it if the second bud was not there... but it it perhaps a bit late to disbud. Or is it?? SCARY...

The paphs I have with Claire de Lune in them frequently produce two buds per stem and fortunately have opened in a sequential manner that haven't caused a problem to the first bloom. At least that has been my experience and hope the same is for you. They really produce lovely blooms.

Great input, Bill. I have had a couple of vinicolors, and a hybrid fairrieanum with two buds - in a couple cases, the blooms opened semi-sequentially, and really crowded one another. Of course, I have also had a couple where the second bud simply shriveled and didn't cause any problems at all. No Clair de Lunes yet, so I defer to your experience.

I have heard some people remove the 2nd bud thinking the plant will direct its energy into the remaining bud.
I have not had the courage to try it.
