Default My youngest orchid- Cattleya BLC Blue Grotto "Takagi"

It is a Cattleya BLC Blue Grotto "Takagi". I liked the color of the flower in the pictures but did not realize the plant would be so immature. Not that it is a problem. Here are a few shots of it as it stands now. It will be all the more satisfying when it does bloom.

I hope one day to post images of it in bloom in the blooming section!

Good luck. Looking forward to seeing it bloom, but that might take some time though.

    Thanks everyone!

It, and the rest of my collection not in bloom, get to move to a new, lighted growing area hopefully in no more than 8 days! My non-flowering phals get to move to a new light tomorrow when it arrives. But it sounds like from what I am reading that the night length needs to be long this time of year, uninterrupted by lights being turned on in the room. And if that is the case, I may have to abandon the dining table, at least during the winter for my phals. I'll put a table next to the 4' x 4' growing table (already on order) in my spare bedroom, that I can close off, that will get the correct light for paphs, oncidiums, zygo and cattleya (that covers my collection up to now).

So which is best for the light? The room they will reside in has a 25' tall cathedral ceiling. And the height of the light will be at about 6'. I am not sure of the height of the growing table at this time. Let's say 3' tall. So there will be about 3' of distance between the surface the orchids would sit on and the light source above. What type of lighting is best?

I have just noticed some new shoots on 2 of the Oncidiums I bought at the grocery. I am encouraged! Wait till they get under the new lights!

I just googled this Cattleya. It's beautyful. I hope you can bring yours to bloom.

The picture when you Google is a lot different than the pic from the seller for this orchid.

IMO, the pic the seller shows is what I hope it looks like.

You know Im a sucker for a Catt. my biggest dissapointment is that our nursery actually got rid of them so that they could start growing herbs

One would think in FL orchids would provide a higher profit margin than herbs would provide. Most herbs are too easy to grow from seed. Why buy already grown?
