Default Paph Maudiae vinicolor first time in spike with 2 buds

    Hi everyone
I bought this Paph vinicolor 2 years ago as a young plant
I was thrilled to see it spike for the first time
Now I can see it will have 2 buds, also I know this is not a multiflower species
I wonder if this will repeat in the future

    Andrea.
what you have is not a species. It may not be a true Paph Maudiae (lawrenceanum x callosum) It could be a "Maudiae type" Paph. Some of this type do have a small percentage of multifloral Paphs in their background, which would explain the two buds. As you probably already know, vinicolor is a descriptive term for it's color form as opposed to album, coloratums and flames.

Maudiae-type Paphs sometimes do produce a second bud that is frequently smaller and less well-presented than the main bud. Some people remove the smaller bud early on so the plant channels it's energy into the remaining bud--I have not tried it, myself.

    Thank you for the input
I will let the second bud develop this time because I am too curious to see how it will look

Looking forward to seeing it bloom. Was it sold to you as Paph Maudiae?

i love maudiae types, darker the better! a few times i have bought nice ones in bud, but the flowers never open fully. i see pictures on the internet, and in shops of some that the dorsal sepal stands straight up, or almost straight up. but all the ones i have bought, even in bud, when they finally open the top never stands up, but stays low, over the lip sort of. not sure why. i think it's extra cool to get one with multiple flowers. i'm very curious to see how it looks.
