Smile Spike or Root on Aerides lawrenceae

I found a new "something-something" on my Vanda. I have only had it for a month and it is my first Vanda. Is this a root or could it possibly be (gasp) a spike? I'm good with either, just happy to see positive growth! The description on the tag says it is white with red tips and fragrant.

Yep,new root. Spikes come from the side of the stem. If you look at the dark V, lower right of the root, thats the rap around from the leaf opposite, thats where the spike should come from.

Thanks. The other roots are all sprouting new little roots on them too. I received some KelpMax 5 days ago and spritzed them with it. Could it already be making such a difference in root growth?

Your heading into summer, should be prime growing weather anyway. Food is a benefit.

Thank you. I am just happy it seems to be doing positive things. The first few weeks, it looked like it could go either way. I did learn (on this wonderful forum) that I needed to water the roots longer than I thought. I love the long hanging roots and can't wait for it to get tons of them!

Kelp Max is good, but give it some fertilizer also, vandas are hungry plants, I fertilize everyday with a diluted amount, I think too much kelp and you'll have monster roots and no blooms, I use kelp every 2 weeks starting in spring late winter and slow down and stop around October November, good luck

Very nice. I'm always happy as well when I see new roots on my Vandas. It's a good sign after all (though I'd prefer to see a spike more often).
