Mex. xerophyticum was discovered in September, 1985 by Herbito Hernandez in Oaxaca, Mexico
Distribution - known from a single site in Oaxaca, Mexico,
    Synonyms: xerophyticum Paphiopedilum, Phragmipedium xerophyticum
Mexipedium is a monotypic genus of the orchid family Orchidaceae, subfamily Cypripedioideae, composed of a single species, Mexipedium xerophyticum
This species was originally described as Phragmipedium xerophyticum from Soto Arenas, Salazar and Hàgsater in 1990, but moved to the right kind of Albert & Chase in 1992, based in part on the results of DNA analysis and its ovary is unilocular like Paphiopedilum and Cypripedium rather than Phragmipedium.
