Hi wogga that spike is sure growing fast.It is also what is called a secondary spike as the plant is now flowering for the second time on the same pbulb.
BTW where i live we are getting temps of down to 3-4 degrees Celsius at night and Im still misting 3-4 times per day even though the day temp is only getting to about 14 Celsius

    Default IT WONT STOP!!!

This spike just doesnt seem to have an end in sight! i noticed it on june 12, and as of july 6, its measuring in at 21" from base to tip. i was poking around for pictures of various odontocidiums, and i believe it to be OdontoBRASSIA'Kenneth Bivens'. here are some updated pics, and a pic of 'kenneth bivens' in bloom. unfortunately, when i got it, the last flower of the previous spike was just drying up, so i dont have any pictures of the last bloom.
edit - i also included an unfortunately grainy shot of the new growth, to document its process as well.
AND i have a couple of surprise visitors in my moss that ive been using to keep moisture on the exposed roots - a few baby ferns!

Looks like she's gonna be a beaut! Can't wait to see yours in bloom!

re: ferns... I know it kinda looks kewl and sweet but they're not really a good idea... their fibrous roots tend to suffocate the orchid roots and generally compete for moisture rather than assist... so pluck away kid-o... beter off with extra sphag!

Just remember what has been happening to spikes on the Board recently wogga--be careful around her! :-) Can't wait to see pics.

Several of my oncids are in spike and I don't even know what the flowers will be like; it's exciting.

    Hi Colin,

I have this plant, but it blooms in Dec. for me. Here's a post from a year and a half ago:
    http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchid...ead.php?t=1543
The photos are dark, but you'll get a sense of its size - it's an amazing plant!

This last time it bloomed, I had two spikes - a secondary and a primary off the new p-bulb - with a total of 32 flowers. I'm hoping I'll get two again this year.

By the way, the name is often misspelled - inluding in my post above. The correct spelling is Kenneth Bivin.

    Julie
