Zain I used the auto fix feature on my iPhone to sharpen it and turn up the light a little bit. It wasn't the best photo to begin with. Still a lot of trouble focussing on the bud. I will take a photo outside in natural light when it opens to make sure the color is right, or at least as close as I can get. This one was taken under "daylight" bulbs, but it could be off a little bit. The color on the lip does intensify every day though, so I think it's close. I've been going crazy watching this lip for weeks. Never had one before that gives me such a "sneak peek." The sepals are starting to turn dark and open a bit more. Looks like this flower will have lots of red and some interesting flaring. It won't be long! My first time growing seedlings instead of clones so I'm pretty excited.

Bought six of this cross. First of them to bloom for me is a dud so far. Sepals are fused halfway up. Guess it could just be a first (or second) bloom thing. Looked like this one may have bloomed before, so it could also be a breeder's cull, I guess. I will bloom it a couple of more times to see if it improves. I mean, the lip...

It is quite common for the end of the lip to be visible long before the flower opens- in cattleyas.

I'm just wondering what happened to this one?

I believe this is uet another example of what in UK is called s**ds law, or alternatively, Murphys Law. In this instance, there is a great cross, and you buy 6, and what do you get ? Quite possibly the only six duds in the whole cross. Or buy just one, and you stand a 1000 to q 1 chance of getting an ordinary average good one. Its unfair, its wrong etc etc etc. But so is life, if you had not noticed.
Way back in the day when I was a slipper orchid fanatic I bought a mini flask of what was then the most expensive and hottest Phrag cross- Jason Fisher. Every one flowered with deformed flowers and got junked. It was only years later that I was told they always did that... if I had only kept them for a year or two, the flowers would have improved .... not sure that I actually believed that, but it stopped me from asking for my money back.
See, what has life taught me ? Now I am a cynic.

This one is one of the three I recently culled. I really loved the coloration of the lip but it was one of the flimsier growers. The flowers may have improved over time but the plant habit was not great, either. I’d rather not keep nursing it along.
