The waiting game you have had on this one, but from that bloom it was well worth the wait, beautiful!

I am always interested in names, and where they come from. I don't expect many will know Henry Oakeley ? An old sparring partner of mine. At one time he specialised in Lycastes , and always seemed to be away in Peru, looking for them, I suppose. Wrote the definitive book on them, discovered a lot of new species. I believe he does not have any orchids at all now. Was chairman of the RHS orchid committee for many years, is now a vice-president of RHS ( very exalted ! ). I used to complain about some of the RHS awards ( for Paphs) at the time when I had the UK national collection of them, and I saw that every time a new species was discovered - and there were a lot of them towards the end of the last century, the committee went overboard handing out AMs etc , every time they saw one. I pointed out that if they only went and looked at them in the wild, they were actually awarding bog-standard forms. He, and they ( the Committee) did not like criticism......

Worth the wait. In fact I waited 3 years. Hopefully, I don't have to wait another 3 years.

You always have stories to be told. Thank you for the info. I wonder why Motes would name this hybrid after Henry Oakeley?
