Prra. Bangkok Sunset X Rhyn. gigantea 'Orange'

Just discovered the spike this morning. I am super psyched for this one. Flowers are expected to be fragrant. The spike may not be very long but better than nothing. I have another one which uses Rhyn. gigantea 'Red' instead but that one rather a slow grower and no sign of spike just yet. Stay tuned for updates!

    Smile Update!

Too bad only 6 buds manage to survive and develop fully. Could have been a spectacular spike with a dozen flowers though. Have to accept whatever nature give to me I suppose. No fragrance detected yet.

    Red face More pictures!

It is fragrant! Have similar smell to Rhyn. gigantea hybrid but not very tart (mild). Maybe a little bit of spicy smell. I like it. I still can't get over it, so here's more pictures.

That's a really nice looking flower.
I like how the lip sticks straight out. Almost like a landing pad for pollinators.

I personally think the lip is inherited from Aerides houlletiana.

Interesting crossing .....the lip is outstanding and the spur is just nice. How long the flowers last?

It just fully opened on 9 January, so I'm not sure how long it will last. I would guess 3 weeks to 1 month. Since I will be pollinating it, maybe I will not be able to figure it out.
