I am actually rather glad my 1 & only Ascocenda does not produce roots like that.It is on it's third spike of the year & this 1 looks like the best i,ve seen(10 flower buds) .Nowhere near as many roots but mine are very thick.Probably just the different growing conditions.

That is the same dend you asked about yesterday. I really need to go and see what the heck that one is called. It is a huge plant and blooms all the time.

    Cheers!

LOL - I'm glad one of us has a good memory! And you're so polite. I'll probably ask you about it tomorrow, Wed, Thurs and Fri. Just use me as good practice for aging parents....

LOL - thanks, Bruce! It's a looker from a distance!

It has lots of antelopey ancestors: 25% gouldii, 12.5% stratiotes and 12.5% taruinum. It also has 37.5% phalenopsis (a Dend species) which gives the lip color, and 12.5% Dend tokai, which I can't find much about. It's quite cool! If it ever keikis, please keep me in mind! Hah! Better than I can do!

Diane, you're also displaying better powers of memory than me! Yes, I was supposed to be sitting the lap of power boat luxury today. But it didn't happen, and that was fine by me. I was the emergency replacement for a fellow, Barry, who's been helping the owner out for the last 18 years. (I've filled in for Barry in the past.)

Barry and his wife, Dee - who often comes along for deliveries - just learned last week that Dee has advanced pancreatic cancer and that the prognosis is not good. That's when the owner called me. This weekend Dee was discharged from the hospital. The outlook is no better, but there's little they can do. So the trip up to Maine was a nice opportunity for everyone to have a last hurrah and say goodbye.

I'm staying on standby for the return trip next week, knowing that Dee's condition could change quickly, but I have no regrets whatsoever that didn't go. In fact, it's a wonderful thing!

    Thanks for asking, though!

So sorry about Dee's cancer... pancreatic is one of the toughest.. not much can be done. Maybe, someday... we're working on it. Hope they have fair winds and a following sea..

Default Wow!Is that 1 vanda in each pot?

The pic you have shown that looks like one vanda growing straight up,with two others coming off the side. Is that all one vanda that has 'branched out'?Or 3 in one basket?I've never seen one like that!
