Oncidium 'Sweet Sugar'
It's amazing, it's not dying - it even has two new growths coming along nicely. Don't know what i'm doing, but it's working!

Funny how some orchids seem to thrive no matter what you do (or don't do) while other take all the babying you will give and still don't grow as well.

Nice work, Connie! Before long you will have blooms from it too!
Cheers,

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

I have had my problems with an oncidium sweet sugar, too. And I have to say, they are real troopers. Still a ways away from blooming, but they don't die easily, that's for sure! Congrats on the comeback!

They don't die easily? That's a good trait to have around me. I started out so well, then came winter and well, it hasn't been pretty. When people promise to help with your orchids while you are off your feet, trust me, take them to a nursery and have them babysat. It costs less than the plants you'll lose.

Don't get me wrong, it was pretty easy to make my plant unhappy - I'm on no.2. The first one died - but only after months of hanging in there giving me chance after chance. I'm doing better second time round. Still not ideal, but definitely going to make it this time. For me, the killer is when they are potted on sphagnum moss on the inside of the pot which never dries and is a sure way to kill me roots. There's a thread about my second try around here somewhere.

So true. Some people will swear by sphagnum moss as a potting medium, I prefer to only use it as a supplement or for seedlings. Everything else will usually drown the way we water.
Cheers,
