    Default Brsdm. Fangtastic 'Kalapana'

We added a new line of orchids at work. Besides our 6 inch phals we are now selling an assortment of smaller orchids from Hawaii. This one came in the mix last week and I just had to have it. It never made the sales floor. I have been wanting one like it for a long time and $20 can't be beat. Now if I can just get it to bloom for me like it is now. Any cultural suggestions are welcomed.

Try medium light levels (higher than phals, less than catts) and don't let it get totally dry.

Oh my! That's a heck of a tall spike! Neat flowers though.

hmmm... I'm puzzled by this one, because no Brsdm. Fantastic has been registered. It is quite possible your tag should read Brsdm. FANGtastic Bob Henley 'Kalapana'. Yes, FANG in caps - quite a few registrations from Norman's orchids follow this model. Assuming this is correct it should be very temperature tolerant, cool to warm conditions, so go with whatever is most convenient, and with cindaras' comments on light and water you are good to go.

That's an extreme spike and impressive flowers - easy to see why you couldn't pass it up.

A fantastic specimen. The first thought that popped into my mind was "albino Stingray." The spike alone appears to be ~ five feet. I wouldn't have been able to pass it up either, Bill! Here in east Tennessee you would have to fork out a twenty note just for a typical Phal.

bill, I give most of my oncids and brassias the intermediate area on my winter shelf units, but make sure they are in direct air flow from a fan.

Bill, it sounds like you have already gotten good advice that I would concur with. My brassias and oncidiums grow warm and bloom. They can get big. Gosh, you have got a large plant, with long spike, with large beautiful flowers and at a bargain price. I think Minis are very nice and they save a lot of space, but BIG is better.

Excellent deal and great blooms!! I don't think I've seen a spider with petals that long!
