I agree witj Gin, it doesn't seem to show the pattern you would expect with any of the major viruses. I think maybe fungal or ???

It's not a virus. It is fungal. When the leaves are wet and the sunlight is bright, it can damage the cells of the leaves and then a secondary fungal infection can develop which looks like your pictures. Don't have wet leaves in bright sunlight--it can damage the plant.

I have the exact same fungus on the underside of an encyclia leaf, it was there when I got it. It doesn't cover a lot of space. It hasn't "evolved" within the year I had it. The plant is very healthy and about to bloom. Should I preemptively cut the leaf off? Is there a risk, Clint (you cracked the case!), of it turning into a more spread fungal infection like for Bikerdoc's phal? Better safe than sorry ...?

If it hasn't grown, then it's fine. If it would make you feel better, you can take a small amount of fungicide on a Q-tip and paint the area. Don't cut the leaf off...every bit of green is a Photon-trap
