    Default Burnt new growths

Recently my Epicattleya rene marques put out a new growth, but before it was even a half inch long it became black, dry and left only a crater where it was growing. It then began to produce another new growth after this, and lo and behold - the same thing happened. It's begining yet ANOTHER growth (it's obviously on a mission) and I'm afraid this will happen again if I don't get to the bottom of it. I am summering it outside in almost full texas sun - do you think the new growths are just getting scorched to death? The leaves aren't burnt at all, though many of them have deep red blush.

Sounds like it might be fungus, it happens to my new growth sometimes when we have lots of rain or humidity. Give them a good dose of fungicide after you have cut away the ick.

From the sound of the folks here, I would reduce the light. Also try watering only the medium and any exposed roots letting the new growth remain free from direct water. That might help.
