Margo, I wouldn't even if I wanted to. Couldn't afford it!! LOL Orchids are cheaper, and better for your health.

I will Shann. And I think I may spray all of the plants I have with a solution of alcohol and water, just to play it safe. Or is that not advisable? And I see what you mean. I just took another look and every flower is infested with these beasties. After today, I will either have to toss that Phal (which I'd rather not do), or you can change my name to Mealie Killer. LOL

And when I get to the Big Box, I will look into that Bayers stuff. I do have Neem Oil, but it seems a bit drastic and a little scary to use after reading the directions.

Neem oil is good stuff. If you spray just take the plant outside (unless it already is outside). I would only use the alcohol as a spot treatment, not as a spray. I wouldn't think the plant would need to be tossed if you do a spot treatment with alcohol for the ones you can see, and then follow up with Neem Oil or similar product afterwards.

Okay, Neem Oil it is. I think I got them all with the swabs and Q-tips, but better safe than sorry. And since I only have a few plants, I think I may take all of them outside and spray with the Neem Oil. I'll have to check the wind direction before I do that though.

This is not exactly what I want to be doing with the migraine I woke up with. Nothing like staring through a magnifying glass with one of those.

Hmmmmm... I wonder if the Phal is happily drunk, now that it's had so much alcohol this morning. LOL

It would not be good to use the cigarette butts. Tobacco may carry the tobacco mosaic virus that can infect orchids. There is no cure for virus infected plans and usually they are culled

Just make sure they are in shade and not direct sun with the neem oil on them. As for your migraine you should try ginger pills or ginger tea...that helps my headaches.

Am I correct in assuming (yeah, I know) that once sprayed with the Neem Oil, you don't rinse it off? And do I spray everything (including the flowers?

Shann, once I spray them, they are coming back in the house. I live in a rather large condo development, and if I left my orchids outdoors, they'd be gone for sure.

I can spray in the shade though. That's not a problem.

Correct, you don't want to rinse it off. I would spray everything. Mealies like to hide in all the nooks and cranies. Also check the base of the plant. One of their favorite tricks is hiding below the surface of the medium where they are not easily seen.

    Anne-
It's a little hard to tell from the pictures, but you may have an aphid & mealy problem. If the oval shaped bugs with the legs sticking out are white, it is definitely a mealy. Qtips & alcohol worked for me, but my plant never had more than 3 bugs at a time.
Make sure you check the plant every few days and re-treat if you see new bugs. I had to treat my plant 3x and it was a very mild case of the mealies.

When my cymbidium had aphids, I sprayed them with soapy water.
