    Default Orchid Leaves turning leathery

As I was cleaning the leaves on one of my plants today, I noticed the lower leaves becoming leathery and fragile. I'm not sure what it is, but it recently became very hot here in my region. It's still incredibly humid, but should I water them more often? The top leaves are still turgid and healthy. Can anyone help?

Lack of humidity. Increase the humidity a bit.

Really? It's super humid here right now. It lived inside on a counter top before I moved it outside(in the shade) since the weather became better. It was doing fine until today. Should I make it a humidity tray?

Seems like it should be humid enough outside then. It must be the heat. Does the pot get really warm during the day? What about the surface it is sitting upon?

    Cheers,

It sits on a white table in the shade. =/ I guess I'll just have to move it back in for a bit to see if it improves.

I would not worry about this leaf, phals often pass their lower leaves when growing actively...I'm sure the heat is just increasing it.

Let us know how it goes. Sometimes it just takes a bit of experimenting to get the right spot/conditions for your plants.

They will usually lose the lower leaves and grow more from the crown . They get that way when getting rid of the old ones .. Gin

Thanks for all the help! It's looking slightly better since I moved it back in. The roots look nice and green again too.
