Anne, I lose an orchid about once every 3 months. I already lost 1 this year, and the 2nd is really on it's way out--shriveled leaves, 1 root, and no sign of new growth. lol. I should've tossed it months ago, but I usually keep my orchids around until they're totally gone.

The Bayer 3 in 1 product is marketed as a product for roses, but works a treat for orchids, too! Cold coffee seems to send slugs away...maybe the caffiene is making them hyper and they crawl away at super speed! In the smmer, if white flies and aphids are creeping along my orchids, I give them a hard spray of water with the hose. What other treatments for insect control have you other growers found beneficial?

Don't give up Anne! Did you already try the alcohol + qtip thing for getting in between the leaves at the base of the plant?
Not recommended, but after I used the alcohol/qtip, I took a toothpick and stabbed/squashed all the mealies that I found hiding in between the leaves. I was afraid of actually damaging the plant with the toothpick, but the plant is fine. :P

Stacey, I think I've tried everything there is to try by now, but no......... I'm not giving up. Not yet. I've worked too hard, and so has this wonderful Phal for us to do that now.

She's now all repotted in a nice, clean, bleached and washed in the dishwasher, pot. Unfortunately, the humidity saucer didn't fare too well in the dishwasher, so I'm now using the lid from a great big container of chocolate ice cream. Hey, if chocolate ice cream is good for me, it's good for my phal

I know I should put more Leca in that pot, but I want to give her a chance to settle first, and then we'll see. She might be just as happy with it the way it is now. Lots of circulation for aerial roots if that's what she wants.

And I shall be watching her like a hawk, or at least a mother hen!!

Don't give up Anne! My first orchid is a Kaleidoscoup too and she means a lot to me for that. I so feel for you... You are such a good "Orchid mama" - she will get better!
This is really amazing place here - so much help is coming from everywhere. Your phal will bloom for you again!
