Hi Andrew, Do you have any room outside undercover where you can leave your cymbs? They really like lots of fresh air as far as I know. I grow mine outside all year and the temperature does get below 5 degrees (45 F) in winter here. I don't have 'Little Black Sambo' though.

I wish I had that luxury.....temps now are around (50-25 F) at night....so I would have to take it in every other or third night...and the days are counting away fast now....I'll have to try something tho.....I just wish it could jump back onto a growing cycle so it can save its own life faster.

Hi Andrew, I have cym. delight ( a pretty pink one), and cym. Gracie Allen 'Bright Pink', and cym. Maureen Carter (golden), and cym. Nancy Brown (white with pink edge), and cym. Nandi 'Green Giant', and cym. pink champagne, and Cym. Robert Rowe 'Frae' (red), and cym. sleeping dawn 'Samibar snowflake' (a white, go figure!), and cym. volcano x cym. via costa 'explorer' (red with white and darker red on the lip). I don't have the volcano cross or the pink champagne in S/H yet. I need to order some more LECA (light weight expanded clay aggragate), to pot them in.

Andrew, I have a couple of 'Little Black Sambos' which are hybrids of madidum and canaliculatum. These are warmer growing Cymbidiums from Australia (Queensland, I think) and they like to be pretty dry during winter. I have mine in a mixture that is almost exclusively medium sized bark with good drainage and they seem to be OK. So I would try cutting back the water to see if that works.

If it is cool, every two to three weeks is good. If it is warmer and light is brighter, maybe slightly more. If the pseudobulbs shrivel you can increase water a bit. What do the roots look like on yours? If the roots have rot you may need to repot it and not water for a few weeks to give it time to grow new roots.

Hi, I just bought one on ebay and it arrived today. Am really pleased with the size and health of the plant. From what I have read this one likes warm conditions and no water during the winter. The articles I have read said to mist it once or twice a month during winter and only water it if the pseudobulbs begin to shrivel. Hope this helps and the information I have found is accurate. I really want to grow this one because of its color. Bill

Thanks for all your help...But all things come to an end....today I noticed that even the new growth is dieing...so I brought it back to the box store, surprisingly for a refund.....Maybe in the future I can purchase a older plant....but this little bugger was the root of all evil including the culprit to my fly problem. So I dont even think I had a healthy plant to begin with. Seeing that I hardly ever watered it. but anyhow thanks for all your comments for future reference. Just for a little extra I wanted to mention that is cym. did not like its roots to be disturbed at all....I think thats why it started to rot even with the once every two week watering cycle. And I have very dry conditions in this house.
@bill hope to see some blooms soon..and good luck with it....glad to see some pictures of a healthy plant....thanks

I think that they are a bit difficult I brought two a year ago one is already dead and the other is still growing but very slowly.

I have one so far so good, it is in the greenhouse in moss , got it a couple of years ago . It has a new growth almost mature when it is mature I will reduce the water on it , I have wondered being an Australian Cymbid. if they are on a diff schedule as it is the reverse of the seasons there. Just a thought as my other Cymbids. are in spike now and not making new growth ..Gin
