Default Cattlaya, edges on Bloom turn brown

Hi, perhaps I find an answer here? The Blc. Love Sound x Lc.Tokyou Magic spiked and had 3 beautiful blossoms. Soon after opening I noticed the ruffled edge of one to turn brown. Over time, it spread to the edges of the other 2 blooms.
What could have caused that? Is it fungus? Virus?

    Appreciate your response.

Doesnt sound like a virus to me. I have noticed such things happening when either the flowers remain wet for a longer time or when the relative humidity is very low or fluctuates. Its the regular drying process. The drying of the flower starts from the petal margins. A picture of the flower and its age will help in diagnosing the problem better.

Yes, I have seen that if the bloom gets water or fertilizer on it and doesn't dry off quickly, it will cause brown spots on the bloom. Maybe that is what is happening.

    Cheers,

I have also seen this happen when humidity is too low.

Thank you for responding. I don't think it was the normal dying process as the brown bands (not spots) on the edges appeared on the first flower right after opening. It grew gradually from the outside to a width of about 3/4" until the circle was complete. From there it spread to the other 2 flower edges and the plant became unsightly. I hated to cut the flowers as they exuded a wonderful fragrance.
If I can point a finger at anything...., it's the misting, which I will withhold during the whole of winter from now on, since I can not stabilize temperatures in the Greenhouse. Live and learn!
