Hi Walt! the very hardest part of keeping our orchids healthy is cutting of a spike of buds and flowers. You can put the spikes in a vase of water after removing from the plant. You might get a few buds to open that way. Meanwhile, the phal can begin recovering from damage. You may go a year without flowering, but a strong, healthy mother plant will give bigger and more flowers when it does next spike.
