Default paph leaf edges rapidly turning black

Help! I bought a paph for a friend at an orchid show on Sun. By today, Thursday, one leaf tip has turned black and another leaf edge has turned black and curled under on the long edge. It looked fine when I bought it. What can we do?!

Yes, she did water it on Monday. The plant was transported inside a plastic bag which was in a larger paper bag. There were 4 other individually wrapped orchids in the same paper bag, none of which have any damage. The plants were only outdoors in transport for approx 30-45 seconds on each end of the trip. She has been keeping it on a table near a window which doesn't get direct sun. I'll upload a photo tomorrow if she hasn't already cut off the damaged leaf portions. The fear is this may be some kind of fast spreading fungal rot. The good news is that it is nowhere near the base of the plant (yet!). Thanks so much for your attention!

On the trip home, could it have gotten a bit too much sun? The sunlight through glass can get very hot. More damaging than most of us realize.

Also be aware of reflected light. Was there a mirror or reflective surface that could have increased the sunlight? Did she have water on the leaves when in direct sun? A photo is probably the best way to help us help you determine what is the problem and a solution.

    Cheers,
    BD

    Default photo of leaf problem

Here is a photo of the problem. The plant has not been in direct sun since I've bought it, although I wonder if heat might have been to close to it in the car?

Bark mix looks dry. Is there some moisture in the center near the roots? Paphs like to be moist more than some other orchids.

I'd cut it off, including a small amount of the healthy tissue near the rot. It could be a rot, but I think that it is not the fast spreading type and the plant will live

it also looks that the plant is poted too deep, is it a part of the media among the leaves there?

Hi, Gidi, I just took a look at the plant (it is in the office next to mine) and I agree that it looks like it's planted deeply. Since I originally posted the question, the plant owner has cut off the black leaf portions and the problem has been halted. Also, the paph has bloomed! There are not a lot of leaves left but it has been almost 6 weeks since I brought her the plant and it appears that it will make it. Thanks for your suggestion!
