    Default Terminal Spike! Gloom

As per my previous post NoID no idea, we were given a phal which it turns out has a terminal spike! However there are three leaves at verious places on the plant. I would be greatful on an opinion of the likelyhood of any of these developing keikies. Thank you. And thank you all to all those who have taken the time to look at my previous post.

To be honest, unless this plant is very special to you, it would prob. be best to trash it and start anew. There is chance that, with drastic intensive care, you could get a side keiki but any recovery and re-blooming will be a long time coming, if the plant recovers at all..

    Thanks, Yew!
Businti, I know there is a product on the market for keikis... Never used it, but read about it... Check in your area if you can find it. I know some people here used it and had good results!

Thank you all again. Perhaps you are right that i should consign it to the garbage. I have done as margo said and hope for a keiki. Time is not so much the issue for me. The plant is a no ID common pahl, so not all that valuble financially only valuble to my centimental heart!

Too bad, it has lovely flowers. If it were me, I would try to get a keiki from it.

Be sure to keep the humidity up around it. Some keiki paste might cause some roots to grow where the double leaves are on the spike.
    Good luck!

I can't add too much to the care of this guy, but I do have a watering tip for growing exclusively in sphagnum moss: Water only the day before it is completely dry to the touch. Sphagnum is tough to develop a regular watering schedule for, as it dries very differently based on the seasonal/day's humidity and light conditions. So this can vary between once every two weeks to once every 2-3 days. (In a greenhouse or indoor light garden this change is minimized but still happens)

A way to find out how it feels when completely dry is to, just once, let it dry out till its crunchy on the surface and in the center of the pot. Then you'll know to water it before it dries that much in the future...it'll help you get a feel for how the surface looks/feels. Like I said, then water them by touch until you get a really good feel for what your schedule should be. I water all the sphagnum plants by checking them every two days or so. Also, using this method you'll need to water extensively each time- soak it or run water through it for several minutes to get all the sphagnum completely rehydrated.

Good luck trying to get your guy to recover. If he succumbs, don't hesitate to jump right back in!

Great advise thanks. I have potted up a number of empty test pots, with different mediums and mixes, to see how they react to myenvironment all be it sans roots. This is so logical why did I not think of it before? Ooops wrong mix ok so what no roots to kill and no casulty just try again. I feel much more confident. Thank you
