    Default What about Crinkly leaves?

This orchid was a little piece of a plant a friend broke off of her plant and gave me about 8 or 9 years ago. I have no idea what it is or what it looks like--but it seems to me it may be a small yellow and brown spidery looking bloom. This plant, however, has never bloomed. It developed these crinkly leaves years ago and continues to grow that way year after year. What causes this? Is it normal? (somehow I don't think so) What can I do about it?

It looks like it is not getting enough water. How are the orchid's roots?

    Cheers

It gets watered ever 4 - 6 days same as all the other orchids I have. It has a lot of air roots and seems to have a good root base. It gets an orchid fertilizer about once a month (same as all the others).

Nutrient deficiency then?? If you have looked at the roots and they really are healthy (not the air roots, but those in the potting medium), then it could be an imbalance or lack of essential nutrients.

What type of fertilizer do you recommend? I'm using one 12-6-6 for growth and 5-10-5 for blooms, both are organic, that the local horticulture store recommended. I have an orchid food 30-10-10 that I have used in the past. What's better?

If it's not a culture problem, it could be a genetic defect. I've read that sometimes happens on hybrids like this.

I picked up a small bottle of fresh fertilizer... Dyna-Gro Orchid-Pro......specifically for Orchids 7-8-6. Maybe that will help!

Quick mineral pick-up for your orchid? Got any vitamin/mineral tablets? Yes, the ones for people. Crush one up and dissolve it in the water next time you water the orchids.
