Default Brown blotches appearing on pseudo-bulbs of Bulbophyllum carunculatum

Got this B. carunculatum last week from Bulgaria and noticed small brown blotches on the pseudo-bulbs. I hoped that it was because it had been wrapped in wet newspaper and put in a box for the 2 week trip. Since then however the blotches are getting more pronounced. So, as a novice, I thought it was time to ask the experts.

John, I think might be this is normal for the new pseudobulb when they become mature, the dried sheath that covering the pseudobulb as they get contact into water than they behave like this. As what I can see your plants are pretty healthy, unless underlying tissue become black/brown and soft than you need to worry.Well you can get the wet tissue and wipe it out than your pbulb look much better.

Thanks Zainal. I am a bit paranoid after killing 20+ orchids in just weeks when I tried growing them 4 years ago and I was determined to not get caught out with weird diseases again. Looks like it is just the sheath that has gone brown and papery when I look closely so that is something else I have learned.

    Regards

    John

I have a Bulbophyllum flammuliferum and after thenew leaf grows out, the sheath turns into a sticky clump. I was paranoid too. So it's pretty normal reaction.

    Happy growing.
