    Default Sick Dendrobium speciosum

Hey everybody I have a Dendrobium specisum that has started dropping its leaves. The leaves either just turn yellow and fall off or get these weird rings on them and fall off. I don't know if it was to close to the window and it got cold or if there is something else going on. I don't think it really got to cold because it has been in the same spot all winter. Any suggestions would be great.

I don't like the way that first leaf looks. If it were my orchid, I'd keep it away from the others until I find out "whats" wrong with it. Maybe it should be posted in the sick orchid section...Good Luck...Betty

I agree with Betty. That looks scary. Well away from the others.

i would agree with Jeremy, but would be inclined to say a fungal infection perhaps? the rings on the leaves have that "look". as they said, keep it away from others and i would try a course over 3-6 weeks of Champ DP copper oxychloride, a high strength fungicide that the chids dont mind. try that about 1-2 times a fortnight and see what happens.

I am not sure about the yellow rings. But this plant has to go dormint and will loose leafs. Should be watered once ever two or three weeks and fertilized very little until you bring it outside. Part of the dormint stage is to loose leafs.
I am not an expert my guess is over watered , fertilized and maybe plant was hit with a cold blast?

That looks as a fungal infection to me! As far as I know, viruses do not cause leaf drop so sudden (and especially that kind of rot at the base of the leaf). Also the pattern of the lesions (progressive rings formed by contiguity) makes me say it is a fungus. I would try some fungicide (don't know any good ones in US, I live in Europe), but you still have to remove the infected leaves.

Louis told me to try Daconil. I got some at a big box store, and it really does work well! Betty :-)
