Crown rot, separate it to your other collection to prevent spread of disease.
Since you are going to operate on it, why not document the process with photos as you go. Maybe your process will help someone else with the same or similar issue. Good luck to you. I expect that it will be fine once you 'pluck' out the rotted parts and increase air movement around the plant.
