    Aer. seem to be particularly sensitive to bad water and bad potting material. Following that, it could be that the moss commonly used on mounts goes so bad that it allows the fungus to start. This could be why it occurs on the older plants. Maybe there is an inorganic product that can be used in place of moss. Someone I know used to use water retentive Oasis instead of moss.

    I'm sorry to hear about the aerangis. I lost a citrata last summer in a similar manner. I'm trying round two now.
