Hello! Sounds to me like it may be getting a bit too much light; however, it is possible that it may be a virus. If you could post a picture, it would be easier to identify the cause.

I have one like this..the newest growth is reddish purple, as it was getting maximum light as it developed. If you aren't getting actual sunburn though, reddish-ness is OK...usually it just means it is getting plenty of light.

Very normal. Could also mean that the bloom color of this particular orchid has a purple/red/lavender color. This is normal and I would not change anything with this orchid. If you see sun-burn from the lights, then obviously change it, but otherwise let it grow. You will have blooms before you know it.

    cheers,

I have a couple cattleyas that do the same thing. With my Crispin Rosales the psuedobulbs and leaves often start our dark purple. The leaves eventually turn green and the psuedobulbs often stay dark, especially during colder weather. I have a couple of other cattleyas that get a maroon edge around the leaves. I actually like the way it looks. In any case it's normal behavior for some cattleyas.
