I would bet not enough humidity. Maybe a combination of low moisture and thrips.

I had blast on a Vanda and a couple of Phals . the heater went out, got to cool , also the new heater blows the air out front up high (Blue Flame type ) the fan on the floor in front of the heater was blowing cool off the floor . I put one of the oil filled radiator looking heaters in front of the fan on low .. I don't know what part of the world you are in so is just a guess . Gin

Could be a number of reasons but but for my vandas when this happens it is usual thrips.

I agree with the general consensus of probably low humidity or thrips or possibly a combination of the two. I had a small vanda shipped to me from HI a while back in bud and it blasted just days after it arrived. I chalked it up to the shipping and a big change in environment suddenly. The plant is healthy and will spike again another time.

I agree Tony on moving plants. Shipping being a big move.

    Default vanda problem

    thanks everyone for the input!
I suspected thrips and have sprayed now. I was also concerned about the water in the overhead sprinklers being too hot but have eliminated that
Unfortunately lost about 60 spikes up to now!
    Regards
