Oh boy...bad news...unless my eyes deceive me that looks like cold damage. If you let them get cold sometimes they don't show the damage until warm weather sets in. Then the damage inside translates to rot outside. Spray with a nice fungicide/bacterial treatment and keep it a little shaded and hopefully it will be okay. My guess, your leaves will start falling off until it's just roots left....good luck. I've lost a few this way...

I would agree that it's most likely cold damage. They don't like to be in weather colder than 50 degrees for very long. But sunburn can look like that also, if the plant is suddenly put in brighter light without acclimating it.

Without more knowledge of where you live and the growing conditions of these Vandas, hard to advise. Could be hot sun, followed by water.

Thanks for the replies! We grow on the east coast of South Africa - temperature between 22 and 45 celcius. So, not cold weather. We grow under 50% green shade netting plus plastic (so probably about 58% shade). We water three times a day with overhead sprinklers. It looks like some kind of fungal infection to me???

I would agree a fungal infection. Physan 20 or another antifungal spray and increased air movement will help.

I'm afraid it's a bad case of sunburn. Sudden exposure to bright sunlight is the main cause. There is not much you can do to save the leaves except try to avoid fungal and bacterial infection by spraying with Physan as BD suggests. Hopefully the plant may not die but just drop the damaged leaves and continue to develop at the terminal end.

Size: 1.4 KBWe have temps. here in East Coast Australia similar to yours' but not as high, therefore I agree with B.D. and Yew Sung. Do you guys think the "overhead sprinklers" could be causing water to accumulate in the crevices of the leaves....
