Default My new Orchid brought me Aphids!

First off I would like to say thank you again for being so friendly with me and answering my many questions. Anyways, I have a few new ones for you... I recently bought 2 orchids from a website .... a mistake i honestly will never do again..

They came in very sickly (and disappointing) looking. My epidendrum ellipticum came in moss... (I thought it was a terrestrial orchid) and it had brown yellowing leaves with small black dots. And the Oncidium Trequetrum was really small and the leaves (green) have very small brown speckled spots on them...

I put the epidendrum 3 feet away from my other orchids (I don't have much growing space) and the Oncidium was mounted on a stick so I put it on the wall right next to the window above the others.

The new orchids started to seem like they were responding to their new environment (The oncidium is shooting out a spike, and the epidedrum was blossuming more flowers.
Well yesterday I finally bought some orchid soil for it and right after I repotted it I noticed shortly after on the flowers were these green little bugs. I researched and orchid pests and i guess they look like aphids.

I panicked and banished the orchid outside to my balcony of death. (everything that goes there dies... including cacti.... my balcony gets direct sunlight most of the day, and the weather ranges form 55deg at night to 85 in the day.) I then read on alphids and my book said to wipe them off with warm water as the first line of defense. So I did (I only saw 3 aphids)

    My Questions:
    How do you fight aphids?
How long do you treat them for?
How far can they jump? Have my other orchids been contaminated?
When quarantining a new orchid how far away do they need to be?

    Of topic question:
How do you water a miniature orchid mounted on a stick? (I've been misting mine till it starts to drip but by the time i get back home from work the small section of moss feels pretty dry, and unlike my phal the roots don't change color to tell me they've been watered enough.)

    Thanks again everyone!

I just had aphids on a new orchid a week ago. Icky! I've no idea how far they can jump, but I know they can spread. They aren't tough to get rid of though.

I immediately seperated it from the others. I mixed up a neem oil & water solution (the neem oil container should have the proportions) and sprayed the orchid heavily with it, wiping off the dead aphids after it sat a bit. I poured more of the solution thru the bark, and I inspected the plants it had been near. I did not see any signs on them, but I sprayed them lightly too. Today, a week later, I inspected everything again, and saw no signs of them. However, I sprayed it again, and left it seperated. So far so good. After 3 weeks of no signs of bugs, I will let it rejoin the others.

Mini orchids on stick...I soak mine in a cup of water for 5-10 minutes, and then hang back up.

    Good luck!
