Heheee... "almost an obsession" will quickly become an all-out addiction! LOL There is SO MUCH joy in coaxing a plant into bloom! I can't even tell you how much time I've "wasted" just staring at my orchid collection! Just wait until you get into the different species out there...I've lately become obsessed with getting specialty compact Phals...I've spent way too much $$ lately on acquiring species phals. So I put my showy, hybrid NoID phals in various rooms to add beauty and color, and then I have my compact species phals in a place of honor on my landing which sort of functions as a sunroom. My husband is starting to call our house the "habitat for insanity..." But even he has to acknowledge that the plants are BEAUTIFUL when they bloom!

So what three orchids do you have? Did your recently acquired Cattleya come with a tag, or is it a NoID? We'd love to see pics!

    Smiles, Jenn

Repot it. Always repot after a purchase. You can't see what's lurking inside that pot, and the quicker to you take it out and put it in fresh medium the better. Catts don't normally skip a beat for me when I repot them. Besides, the green moss on top is never a good sign in my experience. If moss is allowed to grow, you can almost bet on the root system and media being kept too damp.

I recently purchased a Catt like this, and repotted immediately. It looks so much happier! I don't always repot when I get plants directly from growers, but I will from garden stores etc.

My experience is to repot everything directly! L get a good look at the plants condition and can adjust the substrate to my growing conditions.

I have seen to many orchids looking good but with big root problems once I took them out of their pots. I prefere that the plant is setback by replanting rather than loosing it to root problems...
