    I hope this picture posts...

My mystique Blue phal's new leaf has this black stuff on it, thought it could be just dirt? the whole plant is healthy, im not sure why this new leaf looks so bad? compared to the new leaf growing on my pink phal, Im worried now. When I was on vacation and someone was watering my orchids, they left the pink one out in the sun and it's other leafs got burned somewhat, but that doesnt seem to have an affect on the new growth...just wondering if anyone can help. THANKS

    Hi

First I would say that your Blue Mystique Phal is planted to deep in the substrate. And this results in a to wet environment and a big risk to get water in the crown followed by rot. I think that this is the problem and the new leaf could be attact by fungus or rot, the black dots.
I should remove substrate to free the leaf down to the fist root and see if the leaf grow out normaly. Maybe I would try to find som chemical agent against rot or fungus to treat the plant to prevent an attack.

Your pictures are very small and it is hard to see details.
I would also take a look on those whithe dots on the older leafs on the Pink Phal to see if they are scales or not. It is impossibly to see on your small pictures.

    /M

I agree with the above. Your phal leaves should sit above the bark. If you find black or brown on the pbulb when you remove potting media; first remove any soft mushy plant areas, old plant material around the pbulbs and then pour hydrogen peroxide on the area until it no longer bubbles. When finished treating the bad areas, place the plant under a fan or in on a window sill with good air circulation to dry. Also; if the white spots on your phal looks like fluffy cotton, you may have bugs. As the above says it is difficult to tell for sure with the above pictures. If they are waterspots it's not a big deal, but if it is bugs spray with a mix of dish soap and rubbing alcohol, or spray with a systemic and hand pick the bugs off. I use ear swabs dipped in rubbing alcohol to remove bugs by hand. Good luck....I hope you will update how your plant is doing.

The bigger problem at hand is that it's actually a White Mystique Phal.

Just to clarify a bit (perhaps unnecessary, but might be useful for someone), these 'blue" Phals are actually large white hybrid Phals that have been injected with blue ink into the flower stem. You can actually see where the injection site is if you look towards the bottom of the flower stalk. I honestly can't say whether in the long run the blue dye will harm the plant, but one thing is certain - next time it blooms it will be a 'White Mystique' Phal, as Kelly noted.

Good luck with the fungus or rot issues - you've been given excellent advice.

Even with the "Baby Pink Phal" I can see water starting to collect at the crown, make a habit of soaking up the water here I use tissues that do the job great!

    Unhappy

yeah I just pulled it up above the bark, and a small leaf underneath is all yellow and mushy/nasty looking probably why the new growth looks the same. and Yes I see the injection marks on the spike from the blue dye. I hope this phal can be saved!!

I should of known better...it is a young phal, only a few smaller leaves....shouldnt have it buried much in this rather large pot....well I guess we all learn and make mistakes huh?! I will be attending to it in the morning and hoping to make it "feel better" ...

I don't think there is any hope for it.... found another small rotted leaf....removed most of the root system, they were really mushy yellow....barely any roots at all. I dont know if I should just pitch it or what :/
