that could be a lot of things, sunburn, the leaf got poked or scratched and it got a little mark... hard to say. what to really watch out for is if the spots continue to grow larger, or appear wet looking, like bruised and get bigger, as that is a bacterial or fungal rot that will continue to spread. but i think you just have a small blemish, and probably nothing to really worry over. it happens. it happens a lot really. but if you post a better close up of the spot, people might be able to help more on this one.

I believe coeruleo is right and this is no more than a blemish. Like people orchids without some sort of blomish or scar are rare. I wish my plants were perfect, but I have to settle with healthy and growing as a satisfactory status quo. AL

Michele, It's a poked spot. BTW, I would get it out of that icky sphag. Phals waterlog in too easily in sphag., and people have a tendency to over-water them.

P.S.: It's helpful to other members to put in your profile where you are located generally (I'm in FL where the humidity is routinely 70-90% and I grow outdoors in a screened lanai). I'd give far different advice to someone in Colorado who grows on an apartment windowsill than someone with a garden in a more humid environment. Just sayin'...
