    Cool Snail Damage

It has been raining almost everyday, twice a day for the last couple weeks. I finally had to put down diatomacious earth and will be reapplyiing again due to the damage. This was the first blooming for this plant and before it even got fully bloomed the snails attacked. I've been hand picking them off and putting them in dish soap and water to make sure they and their eggs die.

The second plant where you can see the snail I just spent an entire day cleaning bad roots as this one has a bad habit of getting rot rather easily. As you can see the snails have already ruined a couple more roots...it's unreal. They are literally all over the side of my house.

So sad to see damage to that pretty vandaceous. I periodically snail poison bait around my compound and grow area.

I usually torture the slimey creatures with a lit cigarette. The word gets out and my plants are left alone for abit.
Actually, sliced cucumbers placed at night and inspected in the morning are a good decoy. This is the "organic" way we hippies do things in my home town of Santa Cruz.

Or go out with a flashlight after dark and pick them off. I have to do that with my day lilies--the slimy things crawl up the stem and try to eat the flowers.

I put down the diatomacious and next will be snail bait. My husband found two on the side of the house as big as a half dollar today. I had him drop them in the snail goop to kill them. Ugh! I will need to put bait on the entire perimeter of the house.

I hate snails! They can do so much damage so quickly. We're been getting tons of rain in Ft. Lauderdale also, and I've been seeing lots of snails. I'm sure it's going to be a battle all summer.

i hear the best thing is to place a shallow pie pan filled with beer on the ground near where you see them. they party themselves to death.

i've used coors before. it's not suitable for human consumption, but works well for snails.
