Default Renanthera Twin Star Losing Leaves

This Renanthera Twin Star is just coming out of bloom for it's second time this year. Up until afew months ago it had twenty leaves in near perfect shape. Now it has eleven. It started from the bottom leaf up. Where the leaf axis joins at the stem it turns a brown/red and drops, sometimes with little or no yellowing of the thick, fiberous leaves. I'd show a picture, but I don't know what good it would do. I see no pests, fungus, or apparent disease. Yew had mentioned that as Renanthera's grow to maturity they give up their good looks and loose leaves. Could it loose this many though in a matter of some months? I love this plant and would hate to loose it! For three years it gained leaves, but no blooms. I don't know if this makes a difference or not. AL

    Hi Al,
Did you check to see if the roots are doing alright. If it is loosing leaves that fast, it may not be getting adequate water. That could be from rotten roots that cannot take in the water or from a lack of water being provided based on the amount of air movement drying the plant out. I wish I could offer something other than this, but hopefully Yew Sung will see this post and can comment.

    Cheers,
    BD

In terms of root conditions I do see one major, long green root. Only one small root completely dead. Some with the outer'casing' rotten, but the inner root looks alive to me. The media is medium bark as it has been since I got it mail order three years ago. There is a larger root up the stem that is drying out(Just the last few days its been drying out) and this really concerns me. I have to soak my plants and the sink I use is not deep enough to soak more than the tip or maybe a third of this new root. The medium bark seems fine, but I can certainly change this media out. It smells O.K. and does not seem degraded. Water and fertilizer habits are the same as always and this plant has not been moved in a long time. I probably should of done more sooner. Sometimes even after seven years of raising orchids I still feel like I know very little! AL

Sorry can't help with any advice - mine are still losing the leaves from the lower half of the plants, but they are still producing those beautiful blooms.
