Default Trichoglottis brachiata buds chewed off - Just need to whine

So I went out to water my orchids at 10:30 this morning and all was good. I went back out at 2:30 and the three buds on my Trichoglottis brachiata had been chewed off What? Now I won't get to see those beautiful red flowers and smell the nice fragrance this year!! I'm bummed! There was a little finch fluttering around and I did see a big grasshopper yesterday so it must have been one of them?

Of course the last pic is from last year. Ok I'll quit whining now! Thanks for listening!

What a bummer! I'm betting it was the grasshopper.

My bet is on the grasshopper as well. My finch ate mostly seeds.

Oh sad Sheryl. Should be grasshopper or some other pest. Time to take out armor. use a neem based pesticide and spray around, just in case the bugger is sticking around somewhere.

Maybe the finch but I'd be throwing the cuffs on the grasshopper. I finally had two spikes showing on a Dockrillia wassellii that I've had for a few years. The other day I noticed there was a small hole on the end of one. Looked at it more closely and it had been completely hollowed out.

I can understand your whining. I'd do the same. I've had a few times snails eating the buds on different plants.

OK. I object to the thread subject.

You just need to "wine," not whine.

Grow orchids long enough, and you'll experience everything... Sorry for the damage, but please take my advice.

Bahahaha! True Ray! I don't like being denied the beauty I wait so patiently for. Just like all of us!

Thanks Sriram. I'm going to run out and get some. Can I spray sparingly on the plants or no?

Look out of azadirachtin based pesticide that is extracted from Neem seed kernels and is very safe (unlike direct neem oil). I have not faced any phytotoxicity with azadirachtin based pesticide.
