Exclamation Dendrobium spectabile with spots and other symptoms

I have had this plant for about a year and a half. It's always been a little funky as I had been helping it recover ---- Vendor information removed - see FAQs on Posting ----. The root system seems to be good and it keeps growing new things, although it hasn't flowered for me yet, which may be due to my being such a beginner grower. Idk anyway, here are some pictures. What can all of this be? Should I toss it? Can I save the plant? It's in confinement at the moment. I appreciate all your help!

I have a lot of different Latouria dendrobiums and they all seem susceptible to these black spots. I have treated the spots with Daconil - a gooey fungicide which seems to dry them up. Otherwise they don't seem to cause much problem. Spectabile prefers warm and humid which is one reason why I don't have that species. They all like a lot of air to the roots while at the same time do not like to dry out. If it is producing growths it is happy. You will just have to find the right conditions for it to bloom. Mine are under LED lights for the winter and many are producing buds.

Agree with Karin. They seem to get them and as long as your roots are good don't worry about it too much. Most common mistake people make with them is over potting. Just about guaranteed root rot.

They flourish in full water culture which is how I keep them.

Thanks both of you for your wisdom. Do you have information about water culture? It sounds expensive

It would be lovely to grow perfect foliage - but I can tell you the leaves in the jungle are a lot worse...

I noticed that from your photos of your orchid trip. They looked like they were half dead, yet blooming beautifully. And here we worry about every little spot.

Can orchids in FWC be summered outside?
