Default Vanda leaves yellowing from the tip

    Hi all,

I grow my vandas outdoors under a shade net where it is summer all year round. I have noticed that one of my vandas tends to turn yellow from the tip of the leaves. It starts pretty inconspicuously but slowly progresses towards the center of the plant. I am not sure what the problem might be? This happens on a Rhynchorides Tony Tan Keng Yam (a hybrid of the Bangkok Sunset). I havn't noticed this problem on my other vandas. Thanks for your help!

Interesting question because it happened to one of my imported Vandas some years ago and within a couple of weeks it was dead. I never figured out what happened. A well-grown orchid grower later suggested that since the plant just arrived from a more tropical place the sudden change to a colder climate could have contributed. But he could only guess since he couldn't see the plant.

    Ray where are you?

Used to happened to me as well, it started to yellow at the tip and that particular leaf will die. Cutting the yellowing part didn't seemed to be effective to me. I did not do anything special with it, I just let it do its own thing. Water as usual but don't let water accumulate between the leaves. Give it enough sunlight and warmth (but not scorching sunlight!). Mine looked ugly but it survived.

I see. Guess I’ll keep an eye on it for now. And looking forward to another round of blooms.

I had an interesting tip from a German dealer who sent me some plants when it was frosty outside. He had packed them with some heat- retaining ( should gthat be heat releasing ?) packs.
The advice was, do not rush to unpack. Put the box in the greenhouse and give it up to 48 hours for the temperature inside to adjust to the greenhouse temperature, then unpack.
I have been doing this ever since, and it does seem to completely avoid problems resulting from being sent in the winter months.
