    Default snails

I think I have snails in one of my phlas. I have been finding holes chewed in the leaves. What do you guys use to "off" the little critters?
    thanks

In the past I have placed slices of apple in the pot for the night(on top of the media), and then in the morning most of the snails will be under the slices. Then of course you can take them, and dispose of them how ever you will!

    Yuck!

I haven't had snails before, but I have my handy dandy AOS Guide to Orchid Pests and Diseases! Here's the useful stuff they say:

"Snails and slugs are among the most serious orchid pests and feed on the buds and flowers. . . The control of snails and slugs must inclue sanitation, that is, the destruction of hiding places and removal of excess refuse. Chemical controls are Mesural (bait), metaldehyde (bait or dust), and metaldehyde and Sevin (bait). Consult the label for directions and precautions."

Good luck with the slime balls, Aaron!

There is a thread earlier talking about using coffee. I tried that once, just soak the pot in a coffee solution. I only saw one more 3 or 4 weeks after. But if you are not sure, do it a few times, one week apart.

I'm not sure it's snails you've got... do you see the slime trail? I would spray the plant with a regular insecticide to see if that helps. If you are pretty certain it is snails, I would use the powdered snail bait - Correys is the brand I use for my outside stuff.
