    Default Lily Ong

I bought the same (D. Palolo Sunshine X Lily Ong) orchid off of a seller. For what its worth, I cant find photos of the crossing's flowers. Lily Ong is a chinese first and last name I think. I'll post if I find any more details.

Thanks, I have no idea what to expect. I have my work orchids under care of a friend at work because I am off for 2 weeks on vacation. I'm still watering it normally hoping it will bounce back. The stalks are still green.

I did bring all of the babies home. made a nice setup.. I'll try to post pics..

I noticed you have moss lining the top of your pot. I'm still a novice at all of this, and it seems like your den is doing much better than any of mine. The new dens that I bought are, one by one turning yellow. The mix I use contains medium fern bark, and medium coconut husk chips, and it always seems dry. I have no idea if I'm overwatering or underwatering, and there is little, if any new root growth.

I'm curious, what mix do you use, and it is safe to line the tops of dens with moss (covering the rhyzome as shown in your photo)? How often do you water? (i know this depends on a lot of other things, but I'm curious what works for you)

I mist daily and water every 4-5 days. I am letting them dry a little more since its approching winter.. but I panic when the moss becomes bone dry.

I use just standard shultz orchid mix you buy at a lowes/boxstore.

I use a sandwich of 1/4 peanuts, 1/2 bark mix and 1/4 moss on top. I water when the moss becomes dry. The office orchids are on a 4 day watering schedule that seems to do them well. I don't soak the moss, just wet it a little bit so the roots turn green.

I don't know if this is right, just experimenting and the dens, phals, and oncs like it.

I think my biggest problem is that the signs of overwatering and underwatering are the same. Everything I've read talks about sticking something into the mix, but since I use entirely CHC and bark, q-tips dont become moist even if I stick one in the mix the same day I water

How long does it usually take for the moss to dry out (eg, go from moist when you water it to dry as if you didnt water it)? And do you think the bark inside is moist at that time too? Thanks for replying.
