Default Another one bites the dust ...*SIGH*

An the aggravating part is I'm not sure why. My Ornithocephalus was doing so nicely in my terr. Then yesterday morning before work when I went to give the mini's in my terr a drink, all that met my eyes where the nice fan was earlier in the week was a piece of wood with some roots. Every leaf had fallen off! I don't see how it could have been rot -- the little guy was on a 'stick', the moss pad was below the stem where the leaves join, no sign of slimy vermin, & it is was actually the closest plant to the pc fan that runs in the terr. Now recently I did turn the heat on in the apt & some of that drier air does get pulled into the terr but the ornith has had one or two "dry periods" before & has never had a problem. Even though the roots still have some green I expect the plant is a goner. Twas a crappy start to the day.

    Sorry, Pavel!

It could be something other than rot or fungus.

Ethylene gas can trigger premature leaf and flower drop. Ripening fruit is a source of ethylene, as is incomplete combustion: examples include a fireplace, cigarette smoke, gas or oil burners.

I worked at an apple stand the fall after I graduated, and the owner started selling mums outside the stand on the weekends. I was locking up one Saturday and we were expecting some cold weather, so I moved all the mums into the stand before I shut things up for the night. In the morning not a single plant had a flower left on it.

Your leaf drop sounds more like ethylene.

    Pavel,

I'm thinking those roots look pretty good. You might just coax some leaves to grow back.

Oh man, that is a bummer. Maybe you can get those roots to produce some new leaves. Worth a shot.

    Cheers,

Sorry to hear it Pavel... fingers crossed that the roots are strong enough to get leaves going...

was wondering what humidity rating is the plant growing in? Also, if there is a fan going all the time, might be worth seeing if the fan is blowing directly on to the plant coz that could cause faster drying...

    good luck mate.
