    Default Fungicide?

Can I use any regular garden fungicide on my orchids or must I use a special brand? I do not live in an area where there are a lot of specialty brands so would probably have to send for something out of the ordinary. Also, if you see brown spots on an orchid do you automatically treat for fungus even if you are not sure what the brown spots are? I'm just learning these things and my knowledge needs to keep up with the pace at which I am adding to my orchid collection .

When in doubt, treat. As for a fungicide, look for the brands that are made with neem oil, which is often used to treat orchids. I dont remember the name brand, but it is a common one. It may be what you already have.

Why Neem oil? It's an insecticide.

I use Physan 20 as a fungicide. It's pretty commonly available. I use Neem oil for critters, but it says it has fungicide properties. Maybe it does, but not as much as Physan.

Thre's really no need to use a specialised brand of fungicide... in fact one of the big growers here in Oz uses Condy's Crystal... which I believe people use to treat tinea... so just goes to show... always clean one's self before presenting themselves to the company of orchids

Thanks. I have neen oil and a fungicide but not all together. I wonder can I apply both instead of finding a fungicide with neem oil in it. I already treated the plant with the fungicide.

Sure - just use both. I don't know if you could easily find a fungicide with Neem.

Product names are ok, just not store names. Diane PM'ed me that Garden Safer fungicide by Schultz (aqua colored bottle with a purple cap) is 70% neem oil. Available at the big box stores and most garden centers.

    Thanks for the correction, Diane!
