Running on a generator right now we run it every 3 hours it uses a lot of gas , can't stay long . The trees are icicles lots of ice and a lot of them either down or broken , it might be Wed. or Thur .as late as Fri. before we have power .Lots of shelters open .
The green house is fine heater has a mechanical thermostat does not need juice ... This sucks ! Be glad you are not in Mo. Gin

The thought of electric cars makes me giggle Cars are still on gas here and my province has a large supply of petroleum in the ground. People plug in their cars in the winter to warm the engine up. It's just way too cold and driving them cold isn't good for the engine. Thats about all I know cuz I'm no car expert.
Metal contracts when gets frozen. Maybe the need a warm up because the different metals in the engine contract at different rates so when cold so not all the parts are the right size?

But we are a progressive city indeed! The oil industry really gives us a boost economically My University is getting all sorts of new upgrades and facilities, and there are jobs everywhere

I remember those ice storms in Missouri! Especially one where we had two small kids and we were huddled in sleeping bags by the gas fireplace! They would turn on the power every once in a while in a rotating way, and I would rush to the microwave to warm up some hot water to put in the thermos. We were so cold! Good thing you have that Y2K generator! :-) (we have one). Stay warm Gin.

Glad to hear from you Gin. Been worried. Best wishes, hope you don't lose anything really valuable - like a tree limb through the roof! Gas generator, smart! My sis has one that runs on propane, and one of those gigantic propane tanks outside her place. She has a propane powered fridge, stove and generator. Hurricane preparedness.

Be thinking about you and DH. Stay safe.

Stay safe Gin and as warm as you can. Thank God for the generator. We were taking care of my hubby's mother (in Ohio) one winter and experienced an ice storm. Generator saved us, we were out of electricity for several days. We were in the country and all of the roads were iced over in all directions. We were stranded but so thankful that we were with mother.

Glad you have a generator, Gin! Stay warm as you can. I'm sure those shelters are gettin full; it was a terrible ice storm. Hopefully they will have the power back on soon.

Time to bring the plants in Diane! I'll be pruning in about 6 weeks and will have plenty of sticks. The suckers are blooming in my garage right now. It's been shorts and tee shirt weather here but that is about to change. Guess your weather is coming our way.

I thought I had, but I guess I wasn't paying attention. My poor cym spikes literally froze solid. They turned to mush by the end of the day. The temperature with windchill was 16 degrees. (My neighbor has one of those home weather things...) Even the weeds suffered. At least that made me feel better!!
