In decembrie 1989 , immediately after the revolution in my country, first ad appeared on television, after many, many ,many years we have not seen anything like it, was an Adidas ad that said "if you want, you can!"
And now ,after 20 years I tell my son, "if you want, you can"- like in adidas ad.
Now I say to you the same thing!
    Good luck!

    Carrie,
have you tried Chantix? I believe it's called Champix in the UK. The generic name is varenicline. I know that it works well for a lot of people.

I am very happy that you have posted on this subject. You know, in my state a law was enacted recently prohibiting the smoke at any shut place, publish or private.

As I'm a health professional, I know that it is correct..... but like smoker my life became a hell.

you have my support and incentive and I thank you because of being inspired also..... think that I am going to join you in this figth....

    Rosalia,

We'll be right here to help and support you too.

Hmmmmmmmmmm... I wonder if we might be able to impose on Bruce to maybe sticky this thread, or start a new one to support our people who want to quit. Some of us have already fought the fight, and some have yet to try, but it's always easier when you have someone to talk to about it.

Just take it one hour at a time, as I suggested in a previous post. I know that Carrie will be glad for company on this journey.

    Good luck Carrie.
I would suggest not keeping any cigarettes in your house, easier to control a craving when there's no cigarettes readily available.
Also cravings will be stronger at times that you usually associate with a smoke (after dinner, while on the phone, getting out of work etc ..) be aware that's when it will hit you the hardest and boost your resolve in those moments.
Substitute the "suction" feeling by sucking on a lollypop, munching on something (preferably healthy).
Also be aware that you will most likely go through a period where you will feel like crap after quitting (munchies, weight gain, constipation, cold symptoms ... oh joy!) while the body is readjusting itself. This will go away!
You will feel MUCH better after a while, I promise.
I think it's better to know what you're up against so you can prepare yourself and stay strong-willed.
