    Rosalia,

You're going to do just fine. As you said, you need to change the routine, and sometimes that doesn't happen the first day or two. With enough determination though, you'll soon be smoke free, as will Carrie.

And while you guys are working on the smoking, I'm going to work on losing weight. I hope you don't mind if I use this thread to keep myself motivated!!

Together, we will all be working towards a healthier us!!

Anyone else want to join this party?

I just found this thread and thought how wonderful to have such a supportive community!!!

So as a non-smoker, I promise to not judge you and not impose any 'Shoulds'.

Instead, I'm just gonna say that I'm here to also support whatever you wish to do... if you need to chat, I'm pretty much always either here on RVO (so PM me) or on Facebook.

Good luck to you both and to all others who are going through personal projects!

    Big Hugs!

Hi, believe me I know how you feel. I have tried quitting several times and always end up failing. I quit again two weeks ago. Am presently on vacation and today i failed again and bought a pack. Four cigs later I again feel like a failure and what is really bad I am vacationing in Mass. With what this pack cost me I could have bought an orchid. I am going to try again and hopefully the thought that each day I don't smoke buys me another orchid or at least a hefty amount towards one will help me quit for good. Will be thinking about you as I struggle with this, Thanks and Best of Luck to you, Bill

    Bill,

You haven't failed. You've just taken a small detour on this journey. Please don't make yourself feel like a failure. Quitting smoking is one of the hardest things you'll probably ever do. Today was just one day out of the rest of your life. Tomorrow is a brand new day.

Keep that thought in mind......... the one about buying an orchid with what you save. You might want to download that meter I posted earlier, so you can see exactly how much you're saving.

And just don't forget that we're all here rooting you on. Tim is usually around, and I am too, so if you need some rah rahing, just PM me.

OKay I have a confession to make I have had a slip today and had a cig but for the stupidest reason I swear that addiction brain will take any excuse I recieved a gift of 6 beautiful young orchids this morning and got all excited unpacking them and trying to find how to care for them I went and got a cig!! no stress involved i was happy as larry and was like christmas unwrapping these little beauties, so come on carrie back on the wagon please you can do this, I am with everyone else this is a difficult path but with each others help and the support of this amazing community we can and will do it, I just need to think why before I slip as there really was no logical excuse this morning.

    Carrie,

I don't think you need an excuse, logical or not. I think what happened was nothing more than habit, and forgetting for the moment that you were quitting. Put it away where it belongs, and just keep moving forward. We can't ever change the past, but we can change the future, can't we?

Bill, as Anne said, please don't beat yourself up and think ur a failure just because u had a detour... think about all the days you managed to not smoke... sometimes, it is a bit like two steps forward one step back, but hey, that is one step forward!

Carrie, I agree with Anne, I remember when a very good friend was quitting and she found that there are happy situations, e.g. when we're sitting around having a couple of beers, where she will actually have the strongest urge to have a smoke. It's all about breaking those habits as well.

ok, I'm gonna join the bandwagon and mine is a little wacky... but I'm 'addicted' to a particular fizzy drink, and I have been known to drink 5 or 6 cans of the stuff a day! I think I feel like I need it because it gives me that high, or an energy boost, or sometimes if I'm hungry and I see it in the fridge, I'll drink that instead :-/

So beginning today, I am going cold turkey. Will keep y'all updated!

Hey I already fought that monster and beat it so I know you can Tim. I used to drink caffeine free soda all the time but completely stopped in January, and it was really hard to switch to just water but its my main drink now. Occasionally I have juice or wine but at least 95% of what I drink now is water. Soda is now only a treat I have once in awhile. I feel much better for having that out of my diet and so will you.

One tip is to make sure that stuff isn't even in the house or you will be tempted!! Good luck!

Shann, I used to hate water, but once I bought one of those pitchers to filter the water, I just love my water. It's got to be cold though. I rarely buy soda these days, and I find that if I have it in the house, I drink it and too much of it.

Tim, you can do it!! Let us know how it goes, okay?

You can do it. I did it twice and was a heavy smoker ( 3 packs a day )both times. It is a mind set thing. You just have to be ready and then you can do it. Haven't had a cig in 13 years and don't miss it at all.
