Great news!!! Even the non orchid lovers in my household know your story and are sending their prayers. Will they allow you to take a plant or two for him to enjoy while he is in the hospital?

Thank you for the kind thoughts - from your household members, too! Unfortunately, he can't have anything in his room until they move him out of the ICU, but THEN, he may have lots of things around him!

Hi Maura I'm very happy that there is positive sign from your husband, if everything going very smooth for example good oxygenation, stable cardiovascular and respiratory system , the organism responding to the antibiotic therapy, definitely the Dr can wean him from the ventilator plz give a good moral support and positive energy to him, he will be extubated just a matter of time depending on the above parameter.Good luck and all the best.Zain

Maura - good news - I know that ventilator is a scary thing but as the doc's told us when you have pulmonary problems you can recover from pneumonia if you're willing to be intubated. So this seems to have been the support that Philip needed to so he could continue on his own. I'm up here with fingers and toes crossed for a successful extubation!

[SIZE="4"]Again, many thanks to all - it has kept my spirits up throughout all of this.

NEWS: Well, they WERE all set to extubate him this morning, but it seems that he did it himself.... Nice going, Bigfoot - now he has to wait extra time before they can run the tests to see if he damaged anything - like his vocal chords - but, he'll probably be fine - he's just demanding something to drink and he can't have anything until after the tests.

I feel a little giddy from relief - he could talk today, a little, and was making some sense - a big improvement. He's actually almost breathing on his own, and they're talking about moving him out of the ICU maybe the day after tomorrow.

Now, how am I going to get all these orchids put away so he doesn't trip over them?!?!?
I figure I have 48 hours to clean the house, do all his laundry, get his bedroom put together, and get some food in the fridge - oh, and get all the sphagged and bagged victims out of his room, where they've been living for a few days.

One thing at a time - first: orchids!!!!

    Maura
