    Default In memory ..... a Cymbidium

    As some may remember,earlier this year the first peron to reach the summit of Mt Everest died (a New Zealander ) and the New Zealand orchid Society is celebrating it's 60th anniversary.

    So to honor the Sir Edmond Hillary The society apphrached is wife and this the result.The Cross and name were unveiled last Friday morning.

    lovely cymbidiums, the red band on the lip is fantastic... but having said that my favourite is the third, with just a hint of red here and there on the lip and the rest a lovely white...

    But I'll be the dummy: why if it is a named cross, are the flowers all so different?

    I suspected that they were from seedlings--I just had the notion that by the time they became a named variety, they would have been meristemmed for uniformity or something. At any rate, they are all quite beautiful and a lovely tribute to Sir Edmund.
